James is Executive Director of Higgins Wood & Associates, and has been principal in practice for many years. His professional career has included senior management roles in large corporations in Australia and roles overseas, including hospitality and higher education in Qld and NSW, as well as experience in owning and operating a number of small businesses in Qld and NSW.
James worked in tax practices in Wollongong and Melbourne, before taking on and running his own very successful practice in the picturesque Dandenong Mountains region of Victoria. He and his family moved to Toowoomba in 2007.
Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Commerce and is CPA qualified. She commenced working at Higgins Wood Accounting in mid 2015.
Stephanie has been working in the Accounting field for over 25 years, beginning her career in the newspaper industry working with newspaper companies and moving onto partnership, trusts, a number of private companies and an ASX public listed company.
Raelene Cooper commenced at Higgins Wood & Associates at the beginning of 2018 as a trainee Accountant. She is currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting and Finance having already completed Diploma level qualifications in Business Administration and in Arts. Raelene grew up on a large beef and grain farm west of Toowoomba, and has lived in and around Toowoomba most of her life. She has travelled to several European countries in recent years, but for now is enjoying her study, and the challenges and rewards of working in an Accounting firm. She is keen to keep learning in her trainee role and put into practice her university studies.
Jacqui has a Commerce degree majoring in Accounting and is a Justice of the Peace (Qualified), Jacqui started her working life as a rural bookkeeper for a sheep/cattle mixed grazing enterprise outside Longreach. Her duties included accounts, budgets, supervision of the family trusts and financial affairs. In 1989 she moved to Longreach to run her own retail business, which she did successfully for 17 years.
She commenced working with Higgins Wood & Associates at the beginning of 2013 on a casual basis, which has now become full-time, as the practice continues to expand. She brings with her sound knowledge of business and the needs of rural clients and is enjoying expanding her experience and knowledge base further.
Her experience in the private accounting sector has included management and financial reporting and analysis for companies, trusts and superannuation funds as well as the provision of audit material, publication of the Annual Report and related ASX reporting requirements.
For the past 15 years, Stephanie has been associated with the public accounting field. She is experienced in financial reporting and taxation as well as business strategy support and analysis.
Having worked in her own family business, she understands the challenges for small business owners and has a genuine desire to see clients build and improve their businesses by providing analysis, support and advice to assist them.
Amanda Rubeseaame has worked for Higgins Wood and Associates since the beginning as a Receptionist and Clerical Officer. Prior to that she was employed locally in Toowoomba with other Accounting firms.
She has excellent people skills, which are complimented by excellent computer skills. Amanda undertakes various administration tasks for the firm and is always professional in her approach.
She is married with two young children – who are her pride and joy!
Elliot Wood commenced working at Higgins Wood and Associates in 2016 on a part-time basis, while completing his Bachelor of Science (Major in Physiology), after transferring from a Bachelor of Film & Screen Media degree. At the beginning of 2018 he enrolled in a Masters of Professional Accounting, which he aims to complete by end 2019. His duties at Higgins Wood are now in line with those of a trainee Accountant. Elliot is also a trained Phlebotomist with other past work-related roles such as a private tutor to school age children, website designer and volunteer at a local hospital..
James specializes in the structuring and on-going strategic administration of Self-Managed Superannuation Funds and is also highly experienced in all areas of property investment. James’ client base is diverse ranging from professionals in the corporate sector to individuals in all sectors of the economy, farmers, small to medium business operators and clients with extensive investments.
He and his team also welcome clients who require advice and support with all their accounting and tax needs.
James’ interests outside of work include travel, reading, walking and golf.
